Early October (2019) treats

A wander around the luscious grounds and creek beside Mavis' Kitchen in the shadow of Mt. Warning (Wollumbin) provided the first three images of this post. Each is labelled & pleased to say each is a common species around here - how lucky are we!!

The ubiquitous laughing kookaburra.

Posing on a perch - so many subtle colurs variations.

Figbird in there ... hint: the red eye is different to the red berries.

It is a rare treat to be able to get up close and personal with some birds. Their beauty is in their fierceness and willingness to allow you into their space ... my privilege. The striking yellow eyes and the distinctive white featehrs of the wings and under-tail are stand-outs in this encounter with a pied currawong. The hook at the end of the beak is also a reminder of their predatory tendancy.

I included this young plover (masked lapwing) as the strut struck me as very much practising time on its "runway" while finding it's place and full plummage in the environment.

As a mid-month treat, how is this for a find in your front garden 😎 ... in two earlier posts I have included shots of the white morph of the grey goshawk complete with prey. This day I was fortunate to get this fellow from "underneath" in the big front tree and later more side-on perched on a branch in the lot just outside our fence. The undoubted power in the beak and talons are as evident as the clarity of sight seen in their eyes. How blessed to have a visit from one of these in our garden.
