Another boardwalk experience (Aug 2019)

While heading home fror visiting dad we decided to stop and explore the Currumbin Creek boardwalk which we have passed over so many times driving north and returning. The boardwalk is on the north side of the creek and we parked at the eastern end where there is a large parking bay with toilets & a nice protected swimming bay looking over the creek entering the Pacific Ocean. Quite beautiful and it was a lovely sunny morning. The boardwalk heads west along the creek and mangroves; you can return on the same side of cross bridges further down and return on the south side pathway which proceeds along Currumbin Beach itself.

I share only two birds in this post.

The first (and last) bird in the sequence presented was a first for me - always adds an element of excitement and also generates a LOT more photos from which to choose! The second, well, you will see ... and they have a certain charm all their own too 😀.

Enjoy this short post.

I had seen this bird before but never been able to capture a shot, so seeing them in such an open spot going about their scratching and feeding was a real treat. Meet the buff-banded rail. The first photo demonstrates how effective their camouflage can be, the second much closer view demosntrating (like so many birds) the magnificent range of colour in their plummage! Quite stunning.

Just a little further along, this (ubiquitous) brush turkey was looking very much in command of its morning routine resting in a dust (well, sand really) bowl it had raked out. Here showing off its rudder-like fantail and the striking red hairy head and contrasting yellow loose neck skin collar. As I alluded to earlier ... each has its own beauty!

The final four I have chosen again show-off the beautiful colour pallette in the plummage from a variety of perspectives. They also offer a sense of the "rail at work" ensuring enough is found to keep its belly full to keep growing.

A nice morning interlude on our journey home!
