In and around Bendigo I

Based at River Gardens, Axedale (days 9-11)

We had a delightful B&B with fantastic gardens and nearby creek as our base for exploring this region. We had stopped in Shepparton on our way here and sought out Deb's grandmother's home. Found the street but it appears the old place has been demolished as the lot was vacant.

The first photo below is a morning view across the garden. This followed by a selection of the beautiful roses that feature throughout. Later photos will feature other plants and flowers that were hosting various birds offering some special sites to complement the beauty of both.

These next three were chosen for inclusion because they also feature busy bees making the most of these beautiful roses. Remember, if you click on a photo you will be able to see a bigger version and use it to zoom in for a closer inspection 😁.

The next range of photos will feature a range of birds sighted around the garden with photo labelled.

Superb fairy wren on a lily pad

Superb fairy wren on a leaf stalk over the pond

A gathering of new holland honeyeaters by the pond

The next three offer differing poses by a co-operative crimson rosella enjoying the seeds and flowers on one of the shrubs - such vibrant beautiful plummage!

A new holland honeyeater sheltering in silver foliage

A different crimson rosella, late one afternoon, posing on autumn branches of a magnolia with a single remaining leaf ready to fall.

Superb fairy wren grazing on the grass outside our room
A red-browed finch sunning itself by the pond

The next three are included to offer a sense of the abundence of new holland honeyeaters that were flitting about, noisily going about their business and contrasting their plummage with some of the beautiful colours of the garden shrubbery.

Some of the resident guinea fowl wandering around.

A sparrow acting as lookout for other foragers.

A sparrow on a metal frame.

Another view on another shrub of a magnificent crimson rosella.
