Getting to Adelaide

Via the Riverland and Murray Bridge (Days 15 - 22)

Into the third week and on to Adelaide, the main destination (along with Kangaroo Island) of this journey. We ventured further west along the Murray to Renmark and then headed south through the Riverland passing Berri and Loxton.

Another fine day and just before Murray Bridge we took a break for a photo opportunity as the sign invited ... the first of a range of painted silos/tanks we were to encounter along the way.

When we reached Murray Bridge we took a break for a stroll along the river. Some of the water birds we encountered are shared below.

Pelicans and ubiquitous houseboats on the far bank.

Preening pelicans on the wharf

Dusky moorhen wading in the shallows

Welcome swallow pair absorbing some sunlight energy

Eurasian coot paddling on the river

Pacific black duck & eurasian coot sharing the river

When we arrived in Adelaide later in the afternoon, we were not only greeted by Dennis, our host for our time there, but also some of the birds that frequent his garden.

A young blackbird

Spotted doves sheltering on the shed gutter & roof

The next three photos show variou poses of the most frequently observed bird in the garden - the new holland honeyeater.

So, we had reached our penultimate destination. The next week was taken up catching up with family (daughters and their families) and old friends from rugby days - the latter included a celebration for my old coach's 80th birthday, an unexpected pleasure. It was really good to spend family time exploring some historic homes and gardens, winery grounds, chocolate and cheese factories, dining in and dining out. Great seeing the grand kids enjoying running around, practising and playing AFL and ballet and exploring things and keeping their parents on their toes. Also fun attending footy training and a game for the kids.

Then we were off to Kangaroo Island for a week.
