Backyard birds (Feb - Apr 2021)

Ah covid restrictions.

Very little opportunity get out in the last three months, hence the period covered by this post. It was a good chance to get some things done around home and accelerate making sure I have my photos catalogued the way I wanted to. Housekeeping in various guises!

I managed another sighting of a dollarbird. I am used to seeing these on power lines, so this one was a real treat to see way up on top of a dead tree branch. Some sense of the shiny dark blue/black plummage is evident, though the orange bill is duller than I have seen before, indicating a less mature bird.

This next set shows a variety of birds feasting on winter delights in our backyard - literally backyard birds. The first two are an immature blue-faced honeyeater harvesting nectar from a bansia flower. The third photo of the set, also an immature one showing off some insect hunting success 😀 - it is a little "milky" as I noticed the bird on the carport roof through one of our back windows. The photo was taken through glass.

The next set is shared to show how different birds benefit from the same nectar sources. In this instance the flowers on the umbrella tree. The competition is also the source of a real cacophony while staking out their feeding territories - kind of sharing 😉. The bird types are captioned on the photos.

Here are links to listen to each bird call ... try to imagine the cacophony as these are sounded simultaneously and angrily while vying for space!
