Wildlife on demand ;) (Nov)

Driving home after visiting our daughter in Casino with our UK friends, one of them made a somewhat tongue-in-cheek request to see some kangaroos😉. "No worries" we said (more in hope than anything real). It was after 5pm so the timing was right and we headed off along some back roads and could not believe our good fortune ... OK, NOT birds, but a story worth sharing because it was certainly a treat (even for us!) and it ultimately led to more wildlife (including birds) as you will see.

The important thing is our visitors were very happy for the experience ...

We came across a small mob of kangaroos in a paddock quite near the road. Three curious ones wondering who had pulled up and what they were up to; a joey still feeding through mum's pouch; more delight when a young pair started sparring! Finally, further along our journey another one posed for us right beside the road. Happy travellers, and hosts!

Emboldened by the success of the finding the kangaroos, I decided to take our visitors out to Victoria Park and see if we would be lucky enough to see any paddy melons. alas, not so ... but we did sight these pale yellow robins clinging and singing along trunks and vines.

Then, further along the boardwalk enjoying a patch of sunlight to recharge the batteries we spotted this goanna. Fortunately, it was content to just lie there but we passed by with as much stealth as we could manage!

On the way home we detoured out to Tosha Falls. Quite busy with Year 12s, but we spotted this Australasian grebe on a nest in the water ponds at the sewage farm. I hope to visit again to see if I can be fortunate enough to catch the young ones.

Then finally when we dropped our visitors back at his brothers near Gosford, there was a small flock of northern mallards in the neighborhood. Here is a female and male re 😀representing those present.
