A little pied cormorant

I have shared many photos of darters basking on rocks and boulders by the water in the sunshine with their wings spread drying in the breeze (see here for example, or here even). My final photos for September were on a late afternoon walk along north creek. It was very windy and rather cool so we only went as far as the bridge and back again.

On the way back we had teh good fortune to come across this co-operative and very handsome little pied cormorant. The portrait photos below show off a similar pose for similar reasons to the often shared darter. Different colours, different bill, but oh so fluffy and cute plummage and the drying feathers look as sleek as they need to be for underwater hunting!

Enjoy this small treat. 😁
